Autumn Beds, Out Now
Autumn Beds, Modest Mouse’s latest single is out now (iTunes Link). This is the second single released by the band leading up to their new EP No One’s First and You’re Next, which is due out sometime in August.
Over 1 Million iPhone 3GS Models Sold Over the Weekend
Apple has sold another million phones. The sold the same number last year at the iPhone 3G launch. Phenomenal.
Also notice that there is a Steve Jobs quote in this press release. The first since he went on medical leave in January.
Apple Issuing $30 iTunes Store Credit for iPhone 3G S Activation Delays
This is the final screw-up that proves to me AT&T can’t handle the load. I mean, Really? No MMS, no tethering, and now activation delays, sad really. While it is AT&T rightfully getting the brunt of the criticism, it’s Apple having to clean up the mess.
My guess is, Apple gave AT&T an ass-chewing of some sort over this.
Pagehand
Pagehand, a new word processor with a focus on typefaces. Looks awesome.
Here is a video from TUAW that can explain the product better than I can.
John Hodgman at the 2009 Radio & TV Correspondents’ Dinner
John Hodgman roasted our president last night at the at the 2009 Radio & TV Correspondents’ Dinner. Balls.
Steve Jobs Had Liver Transplant Two Months Ago
A recent Wall Street Journal article claims Steve Jobs had a liver transplant two months ago in. I, like John Gruber, found it odd that the Wall Street Journal simply stated this as fact, not even the mention of an “anonymous source”. Even in the wake of this news, they claim Jobs is expected to return to Apple on schedule, although he may work only part-time.
This is a shock for sure. Get well Steve.
iPhone 3G S Launch Day
Looks like an awesome turn out.
PCWorld's list of "Hidden" iPhone 3.0 Features
While I was busy making a list, PCWorld was too. I wouldn’t say these features are “hidden”, but they aren’t immediately obvious either.
The Tripwire Debuts "Whale Song"
The Tripwire, today debuted, Whale Song. This is the second song on Modest Mouse’s upcoming single entiteled Autumn Beds. It is due for release this Tuesday, June 23rd.
WWDC, week two!
This week the Macalope talks about the “aftermath” of WWDC. He spends most of his time (rightfuly) browbeating the journalistic hack we all know as Adrian Kingsley-Hughes. Excellent as always.
My comprehensive list of must-have iPhone apps.
The iPhone 3G S is going on sale Friday. So, in celebration, I have prepared a list of Apps that every iPhone (and iPod touch) owner should have
Games
My favorite games on the iPhone are as follows: Rolando, Zen Bound, Tap Tap Revenge 2, Wurdle, Topple 2, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart, in no particular order. Most are really inexpensive by now and all really play well on the iPhone’s interface.
Books
I haven’t dug too deeply into this category, but I have to say the best I’ve found is Classics. This app currently comes with twenty titles. Tittles such as The Wizard of Oz to Alice and Wonderland to The Metamorphosis, all wonderfully rendered. The pages turn like pages the text is large and crisp. A very pleasing experience even if it is on a handheld device.
If you’re like me, and you are or you wouldn’t be reading this, you’re on Twitter all the time. It turns out the Twitter mobile site blows, so you’ll need a Twitter client. The two best Twitter clients for the iPhone (and the Mac) are Tweetie and Twitterific. Tweetie costs actual money, but is my preferred client. Twitterific is free (or a paid ad-free version), and very nice too. Try both and decide for yourself.
I also use Birdhouse to prepare, edit and publish my tweets from time to time. An absolute must-have app for anyone who cares about what they say on Twitter.
Pandora
Pandora Radio is one of those apps that, as Merlin Mann put it, “feel a little like magic”. Stream music from Pandora’s clound via this app and suddenly you’ve got a lot of music at you fingertips. The only downside is the fact you can’t do anything else with your iPhone while listening to Pandora. Things like, surf the web.
Remote
Remote is a free app by Apple that lets you control iTunes via wifi on your Mac or PC. It works very nicely.
Shazam
Shazam is another application that surprised me by working the way it’s supposed to. Set it near a speaker playing a song you have a question about, push a button, and let it do it’s magic. It will find the song title, artist and most other information you would want to know about the song. Usually.
Kinda unnecessary considering how nice their mobile website is, but this app has an ace up it’s sleeve. It has audio searching. Ask it a question and it will take your audio query and give you correct search results. Usually.
Google Earth
The same desktop class experience of Google Earth that we know and love, but on iPhone.
Evernote
This is a must for any Evernote customer. It works just like their other desktop clients, allowing you to make text, snapshot, saved photo or voice notes. Of course it allows you to view any of your older notes and edit them on the fly if need be. Very nice.
Wikipanion
Wikipanion is a free (there is a paid version) Wikipedia client, allowing you to access Wikipedia without actually going to their site. The reason this is a big deal is, Wikipedia sucks when viewing it on an iPhone. This app takes the same articles and lays them out nicely for your view pleasure.
WhatTheFont
This app allows you to identify fonts by taking a pictures of a typeface and sending it up to the Myfonts cloud. They will send you their best guesses as to what typeface you are looking at and everyone walks away happy. Usually.
As long as you obey this apps instructions you’ll get great results.
1Password
1Password allows you to carry around all of your passwords with confidence. The only thing you have to remember is a master password, then you have all of your passwords at you fingertips for all of the sites you may need to access while on the go. It can feel a little cumbersome at times, but I think this could fixed with the introduction of cut/copy/paste in iPhone 3.0.
So there you have it. My comprehensive list of must-have iPhone apps. These are just the few app I use, and I’m sure there are other apps that deserve to be on this list. So, please send me your suggestions and I may add them to the list.

Apple warns of "unsupported third-party digital media players"
Apple has posted a support page in regards to ” unsupported third-party digital media players”, and by “third-party digital media players” they mean the Palm Pre.
In short, the page warns against the use of said devices because software changes over time, and that it might break any syncing between “unsupported devices” without notice.
Microsoft Stops Paying For Employees' iPhones
I, like others, am supprised they ever payed for them in the first place.
Let's Put John Gruber To Work
A great flickr photo set of a man that is one of my personal inspirations.
This thing has been spreading like wild fire on Twitter today.

Awesome time lapsed video of the App Wall at WWDC courtesy of Peter Belanger.
Slower SATA Interface in New MacBook Pros
It appears Apple slowed the spead of the SATA interface in their new MacBook Pros from 3.0Gbit to 1.5Gbit. This shouldn’t be noticeable if you are using a standard Hard Drive, but if you are using a Solid State Drive your performance boost may be less noticeable.
My question. Why?
Battery Life to Die For
AnandTech did some tests on the new 15-inch MacBook Pro’s battery life. The result? Awesome battery life improvements.
UPDATE: The link is fixed now, sorry about that.
